ABOUT. Marina Rogatova

Marina Rogatova — Decorative Artist, Master of Fedoskino Lacquer Miniature.

Marina Rogatova was born on July 3, 1962, in the Moscow region. She graduated from the Fedoskino College of Miniature Painting in 1982, where she studied under renowned masters such as S.V. Monashov, N.G. Marchukov, and A.V. Shchagin.

Marina began her artistic career in 1984 at the Fedoskino Lacquer Miniature Factory — one of the oldest centers of lacquer miniature painting in Russia. From the early years of her career, she actively participated in art exhibitions, and in 1990 she became a member of the Union of Artists of Russia.

The main themes of Marina Rogatova’s work include folklore, fairy-tale scenes, and genre depictions of everyday folk life. She skillfully combines a poetic outlook with a subtle sense of humor, creating vivid, expressive, and memorable images. Her works reflect a deep connection to folk traditions and the spirit of Russian fairy tales. Thanks to her masterful command of technique and her artistic imagination, she has developed her own original style within the Fedoskino school.

Marina Rogatova continues to follow the traditional techniques of miniature painting, which require delicacy, precision, and exceptional accuracy. Yet, like any true artist, she strives to convey not just technical skill, but her personal vision of the world in each of her works.

Her artworks are housed in the collection of the Fedoskino Miniature Factory Museum (Fedoskino), the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Art (Moscow), as well as in private collections in Russia, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

As a participant in major art exhibitions such as the exhibition dedicated to the 800th anniversary of The Tale of Igor’s Campaign (1986), Folk Art exhibitions (1987, 1989), In Thy Name (2000), among others, Rogatova has made a significant contribution to the development and popularization of Fedoskino lacquer miniature art. Her work is a tribute to tradition and, at the same time, a deeply personal poetic view of the world, expressed with elegance and love for her native culture.
